Ear pressure(not pain) for 2 months

I've had a very mild problem with my ears for about 2 months now, it started around Oct. 20 and it is Dec. 11 now. At least that's what I think, because I don't really know what to make of this, that's why I'm asking.

At around Oct. 20, I was just hanging out at home a few days after recovering from a mild cold. However, my ears were still a little bit clogged after the cold, so I plugged my nose, shut my mouth and pushed air out until I felt something in my ears. What I felt was a squeaking noise, a noise that bothered me. I did this several times. I asked my mom about it and she said that it wasn't a good thing to do. Then we looked for answers in a health book we had at home and it said something about my ear suffering simply a bruise, and that it should go away soon.

However, I don't think that was the case. My ear has been feeling on and off pressure over the last 2 months, and now it is very annoying. My hearing ability seems to be OK, though sometimes my ears feel sensitive to loud or unusual sounds.

When I swallow, I hear a crackling sound in my ear, not very loud at all, but pretty consistent. Also, just recently, the area near my glands has felt some pressure that seems to be tied into my ear problem.

I seem to have been very paranoid about this, so I don't know how much of it is really a problem. I've tried researching this online, but I can't find a match for my problem.

I've taken a few decongestant pills on occasion, but they haven't helped. An answer to this problem would be greatly appreciated.

Have you seen a doctor for this problem?  An ear nose & throat specialist could answer your questions or atleast tell you that there is nothing to worry about.  You could have an allergy, even if you never had one before.  Allergies change every 7 years, I've heard. Keep Q-tips out of your ears too, they can compound wax into your eardrum.  You may want to just try a ear flushing kit before you spend money on a doctor.  They cost less than $10.

Hey there...sounds like you have or had a Eustachian tube problem, the tube that equalizes pressure between your inner and outer ears.

When the Eustachian tubes get clogged due to allergy or a cold, your hearing can be reduced.  The squeaking noise you heard when you blew into your nose to equalize the pressure most likely was the result of air trying to get through a swollen Eustachian tube.

Most likely, you need to take decongestants.  If it continues, I suggest a Doctor visit.

For about two weeks now, in the evening my ears fill full of pressure and I can't hear that well. Nothing triggers it, it just happens every evening. So I will try and close my mouth and block my nose and blow, but it doesn't go away. Its starting to get really obnoxious!! I have tried decongestants, but they haven't worked, and I am not recovering from a prior cold or anything this just came on!! Help me!!

I agree with bweb. Pseudophedrine 60 mg every 4 hours works well with me. If you're on other meds check with the pharmacist first. If that doesn't help, you can visit an ent and they can make a small incision to help equalize the pressure. Best of luck to you.

I'm having similare problems; ear pressure, sensitive to sound, a strange swishing sound.  I think it is related to allergies, however Allegra, Flonase and Pseudophedrine are not helping.  I'm going to the doctor tomorrow, hopefully they'll have something to help me!

My son had all the symptoms that you are having.  He was put on Singulair in the springby our allergy doctor and it worked wonders, I was amazed!  He was taken off it in Aug. but this week I had to put him back on it because the ear pressure came back.  Singulair is very expensive but it helped my son feel much better!  Good luck to you!

I recently had a lot of pressure in one ear and reduced hearing.  It started with a cold but never went away.  Turns out my ear was clogged with wax.  I put 3 drops of mineral oil in a day for 3 days and then went to the doctor to flush it out.  A wax ball the size of a small marble came out and my hearing returned to normal with no more pressure.  It feels wonderful.

I also have this ear pressure problem in my right ear for months now. I saw a doctor and she said I had wax build up, so the nurse flushed out both ears and gave me a prescription decongestant. I took the decongestants for a week but they did nothing for me. I still have this nasty pressure in my right ear. Anyone got any suggestions?

Recently I awoke and right away went through a violent spinning spell..i couldnt see straight almost vomited and passed out.  it all started after a very bad cold...over a year ago.  alergies (allergies)? or clogged ears? anyone got some suggestions of what im going through? it has affected my life to the point of almost debilitating me.

A solution described at this web site works, if it is not wax in your outter ear, but clogging inside the eustachian tube - often caused by an ear infection, or simply allergies and sinus congestion even, this solution is easy to do at home with a neti pot and sinus spray, to clear swelling and clogging in the eustachian tube.

i know this thread is very old but did you find out what was wrong? I have the exact same symptoms as you. I had a cold then got this pressure in my ears after and went to the doctors and said I have bruised my ear drum also in the inside on the right ear but I have pressure in both my ears. My ear are sensitive to loud and also unusual noises and when I swallow it crackles also but not very loud I just notice it everything I swallow. Also I wake up 2-3times during the night cuz my brain wakes me up and saying your ears have pressure haha If you know what I mean. I went to the ENT and said everything looked fine but I got back in a couple weeks to get other test done if anyone knows how to cure this problem let me know.
