Extreme Foot Itching

3 to 4 times a year and to what stimuli I can't figure out both of my feet become inflamed and itch horribly. Most of the time my entire foot, top, bottom, instep, and even my ankles start itching at once.  There is no rash, no bumps, just intense itching.  The onset of a bout is sudden and can last a couple days to several days.  Hot water seems to intensify the itching.  No matter how much I scratch the itch is just as intense as when I started.  Makes it almost impossible to sleep any length of time as the itch is so intense it's almost impossible to stop.  Any ideas?  My Family Physician just prescribed hydrocordisone but that brought zero relief and the itching ran it's normal course.

Also try a natural liver cleanse from time to time to get the toxins from Food out of your blood stream.

Food allergy!

Have the same problem for last 8 years. I got tested @ Atlanta asthma & allergy found out I'm allergic to everything 37 different things..  $$$$$$$  Went ahead with the shots for 5 years! Shots helped with the breathing however feet still itching better yet me scratching my flesh off..

For me I noticed to much Cayenne Pepper, Chinese dishes depends on restaurant, one I can eat Meine Fun next restaurant I have an attack not sure MSD, Soy, Rice. I stopped the shots because Insurance paid 7 whole bucks per shot while I paid the other 25 bucks weekly, not going to get shots rest of my life. I'm looking for a long term solution better a cure.

(Trying 35% peroxide therapy)  so far so good I'm @ 18 drops 3 times day, still have a ways to go. One Minute Cure book can guide you on what to do if you want to try it

Wow! I'm glad you found relief. I believe we need to get back to the basic nutrition and antioxidants found in natural foods. Thanks for sharing.

I had this same issue when I took fish oil capsules. I hadn't had the issue again until last night. It's interesting that someone mentioned soda. I had my first coke yesterday ,in years.  Very strange

Thank you for sharing this; I never thought about fish oil, I'd been taking Omega Red fairly regularly. Not so often anymore, as I'm trying to get it in my diet alone. Interesting.

I would recommend to go to an allergist and he will be able to check on what exactly you are reacting to by doing some tests.

I have never been tested for allergies; I guess I'd expect a GP to recommend it after all my complaining, lol. Guess I'll have to search for an allergist. Thanks.

I wish I had the answer! This is the first place I have found anyone complaining of the same intense foot itching that I have experienced for years, with episodes lasting a couple of miserable days. It became extreme a few years ago, just before I was diagnosed with a severe liver condition, which has been managed. The itching had disappeared for 3 years, but I've experienced it again recently and I'm having an episode now: intense deep, inner itch of the entire foot, mainly the bottom, but sides and back of heel as well, which leaves me unable to sleep much or function, as I am constantly rubbing (hard) the itch that comes in waves. Ever wanted to chop your foot off? I laugh, but I have felt that painfully frustrated and in tears. I don't drink soda, have no known food allergies and can't pinpoint what causes the onset, nor can my doctor find a reason. I've tried allergy meds, Epsom salt soaks , essential oils, (some temporary, mild relief w/each) and also watch what I eat, but am still seeking answers.

I have been suffering from insatiable itching in my feet when they are at rest, mostly at night - there are nights that is so severe that I get no sleep.  The itching seems to be a result of spasms within my muscles.  I don’t know why I have the muscle spasms but they have been constant for years now … I don’t think the muscles in my feet have been in rest for many years now.  During the day the spasms are mild but if I rest a pencil on my arch during the day it “dances” - I am certain that the night time itching is a result in increased spasms.  If anyone has the same symptoms I would love to hear from you.

I have problems with itching on my feet and the palms of my hands.  After literally years of experience I finally tracked the problem down to cola drinks (pepsi, coke, etc.)  Dr. Pepper seems to also be a problem.  Who would have thought a food allergy would cause itching in your feet.  My theory is that it's a shellfish based dye that they use in the soft drinks that's causing the problem, because I know I have a problem with shellfish.  Clear soft drinks like Sprite and Seven-up don't seem to cause a problem.  Even if your problem isn't caused by the same thing, you might start thinking about whether it might be some sort of food allergy.

I quit diet soda years ago, aspartame is a demon; and try to cut sugar and carbs; seems my episodes are fewer these days. I just never know if or when, vigilance in diet seems to be the work required. I do keep hearing about food allergies being the culprit.  Our food is such crap these days, it's hard to find good, pure food, but that is my constant goal.

I can never tell when I'll get the foot itch. Mine only lasts for an hour but you can't ignore it. I do know that if  take an over the counter antihistimine it will be gone in 1/2 an hour. This indicates an allergy to something.  I am allergic to eggs and avoid anything with them like the plague.

I never know when to expect it either; but when it comes, it's a 2-3 day thing and I'm miserable. I've tried antihistamines and they work for a few hours. The last episode, I took a xanyx someone offered me, and it was the best relief I've had, which makes me think it's a nerve condition. ??  I doubt any doctor would prescribe that anymore.  I'm trying to be vigilant in supplements and diet, but it's constant work. Thankfully, episodes seem fewer and far between. Thanks for sharing.

Hi,

Does the itch occur in any specific season, as in summers or rain? have you checked if it is because of a specific shoe or socks that you might be using?

It seems to be some kind of allergic reaction. You can try OTC anti-histamines or anti-allergics to give you some temporary relief. An allergy specialist can guide you further as to which therapy you may take and what tests can be done to figure out the allergan.

Let us know if you may have any more questions.

Good luck.

Just happened to me! It started intense around my big toes on both feet and turned my entire feet read. I went to wipe them off, thinking perhaps I had stepped on something, I found that both were starting to look swollen and it was progressing up my legs. The cold water did slow down the itching. I took 1  benadryl and it helped but then the itching, tingling progressed to the rest of my body. I took another benadryl and that finally stopped it. I back tracked on what I ate that day, a fresh turkey sandwich from dairy Queen for dinner but for lunch I had a McDonald's fish sandwich and ice coffee.  I honestly think it was that fish sandwich Because I had not had it in years but the turkey I eat all the time. Thought I was going to the hospital. It got really baddddd.  Good look guys!

Sounds like athletes foot (but I'm not a Doc).  If your Dr doesn't think that's the case, perhaps Lidex (generic = Fluocinonide 0.05) cream would help...
