I had a bout of crying one day, and the next day my eyelids were swollen and red also a little scaly travelling down slightly where you would have bags under your eyes.. this was in both lids, it hadnt gone completely, its up and down in redness and just when i thought it had gone, I went to the gym and the sweat on my eyelids  flared it back up again the next day, it seems to sting with my sweat or tears....any ideas or help what i have?

Hi,

The symptoms of dermatitis can be relieved by lid hygiene. It includes softening the lid margins, removal of lid margin debris, applying an ophthalmic antibiotic ointment and avoiding the use of eye makeup. Application of hot compress could further facilitate recovery. This needs to be practiced long term for relief from repeated attacks of dermatitis. Besides avoiding the allergen (if known) which causes theses symptoms could further prevent attacks. If your symptoms are worsening consult an allergy specialist, he can help identify the allergen.

Hope this helped and do keep us posted.

Hi all

Thank you for your advice, I still have this problem and did go to my GP/DR however they said I have probably had an allergic reaction to something, but its like finding a needle in a haystack it could take forever to find out what it is was his answer,,,,,,

This didn't help so having done more research, it sounds as though I have dermatis of the eyelids, because my eyes dont sticky or get sore like in conjunctivitis.....

I like the teabag suggestion, but decided on buying optrex to replace the natural oils to help the dryness this is helping a little so hopefully it will get better..

if u don't want a dr. u can try;
your skin is irritated, vitamin E oil found in any vitamin store or many pharmacy areas
also, tea bag, put tea bag in boiling water for 30 sec, cool and lay on eye areas and the tannin in the tea will shrink your puffiness (use tea first)

Hello and hope you are doing well.

The swollen eyes might be due conjunctivitis which is inflammation of the thin transparent membrane which covers the eyes. Conjunctivitis can be caused by infections and noninfectious conditions.  Infections can be due to viral, bacterial and chlamydial. Non infectious causes are allergies, chemicals and injury. Sometimes swollen eyes can occur with other inflammations or infections of other parts of the eye like iris, cornea, lens etc. It's important that an element of injury needs to be ruled out so you will need to consult your primary care physician for further evaluation.

Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
