Flushed Red cheeks from a sulfa drug

by judybug, Sep 25, 2006 12:00AM
I began taking sulfasalazine about 3 weeks ago and immediately began getting very flushed cheeks and heavy perspering, soaking my clothing.  Is this a result of the drug?  I take 1500 mgs a day plus folic acid.  I called my dr on Friday and dont have a response from him yet.  This is sooooooo embarrassing.  I also have an allery to penicillen.  Could this be connected? I am stopping the medication until I hear something.

Dear Judybug,

You need to call the doctor who prescribed Sulfasalazine and tell him or her about your symptoms!!

If your doctor does not call you back within an hour or so, call again and again and again if you have to!  Explain to his staff that you believe you are having an ADVERSE REACTION to the medication the doctor prescribed and you need HELP NOW!  Be emphatic and forceful.

If the doctor STILL does not call you back, find another doctor and explain to his/her staff what is happening and that you need immediate help.

Please let us know what happens - your experience may help others!
