Help Im on too many drugs for hives will these work???

by Lillysmom1025, Jun 04, 2007 12:00AM
Hi Im 25 and i just started getting hives 2 months ago. The Dr put me on 400mg cyclosporine and I just had a huge flare up so i was given steroids 40mg of prednisone. I can't really take antihistamines because they make me so drowsy. Zrtec included Allegra doesn't do the job on its own. This is really a pain because I am now having to take meds to cover up the symptoms of the Cyclosporine and Steroids. Has anyone taken this drug? Any luck? My dr says that the next step would be drugs for rheumatoid arthritis or anti malarial(used to treat malaria) drugs. Help!!!!

Oh boy!  Hives are NO fun!  My son has terrible allergies (15 life threatening allergies) and we've dealt with hives more times than I can count, once they lasted for four months before subsiding.

Just some questions... Have you had allergy testing?  Are you going in the sun frequently (I will get hives from being in the sun too long)?  Are your hives totally unexplained?

Loratadine was probably the one medication that gave me the most relief (Generic for Claritin and OTC).  Try not to aggravate them by getting too warm and wear loose clothing for some relief.

Good luck and I hope you get relief SOON!

i think all those antihistamines sometimes make you feel worse. for me antihistamines don't work at all but i tried a combination and sometimes i didn't even feel like myself.  I recommend trying probiotics and other natural supplements to strengthen your immune system. probiotics can be taken with anything and is harmless...so my doctor says.
