Hives- Dermatologist or allergist?

I have had reoccuring hives for over a year now and can't pinpoint what is causing them. I haven't changed my eating habits or detergents or anything else. Do I go to an alergist or dermatologist?

I have seen both and still have hives, I think I am allergic to differant things, one is house plants, particularly cactus , I use free and clear detergent, as I break out if I use regular I also think that an unstable blood sugar can make you have rashes/hives, not diabetes but up and down hypoglycemic.Mine actually started after a trauma 2 years ago so stress may account for some of it, I have learnt to live with it ...good luck
