Hives & Knee Pain

by Oscarjack, Sep 27, 2009 01:51AM
My 2 1/2 year old son has developed Hives for the first time due to an apparent underlying virus which his body is trying to fight off which is resulting in the Hives.  Although he has also been complaining of sore knees mainly the left one and is very reluctant to walk and sometimes refuses to walk at all.  He is also very tired and lethargic after only being up for a few hours.  Is there anyone out there that can shed some light on these symptoms.

Hi
Welcome to the forum!
Joint pain in a child with rash should be investigated in lines of juvenile rheumatoid arthritis.
Another possibility is reactive arthritis, which could have occurred in reaction to something—in this case rash. In this case you need to rule out the cause for the hives or urticaria. Urticaria is usually triggered by allergens, such as drugs, foods, insect bites, inhaled substances, in response to sunlight, cold, heat, stress, exercise, or a viral infection. Other common allergens are pollen, mold, dust, pet dander, or cosmetics. Food allergies like to gluten and lactose too should be looked into. You may need to consult an allergy specialist.
The third possibility is Hashimoto’s thyroiditis. Please consult a pediatrician and get your child investigated for this.
Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
