Hives During Pregnancy

Hives During Pregnancy

I have had terrible hives for the past 9 nights and have no idea what from.  I have not changed anything in my diet and the only change to environment are cedar shelving in the linen closet.  Could this be what is causing my night hives?  They keep me up during the night and I am sleep deprived already at 13 weeks pregnant.
Any Suggestions?  I would hate to have to take medication for the next 6 months just to keep my sanity.

Hi
Welcome to the forum!
The hives could be due to cedar shelves. However there are some rashes peculiar to pregnancy. Rashes associated with pregnancy are Pruritic urticarial papules and plaques of pregnancy (PUPPP), Prurigo of pregnancy, Pruritic folliculitis of pregnancy, and Pemphigoid gestationis. PUPPP is the most common, however it is seen more on stretch marks and during the third trimester. If you have gained a lot of weight during your pregnancy then this is a possibility. Prurigo of pregnancy is due to abnormal hormone levels, will disappear on delivery and reappear on subsequent pregnancy.
Simple moisturizing creams, wet soaks, calamine lotions etc are generally enough to soothe the symptoms. Hope this helps. Do consult your gynecologist regarding this. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
