Hornet sting

Hornet sting

I have a known beesting reaction and carry an epipen.  But usually my reaction is not respiratory.  I continue to get larger and larger local reactions (Previous 3 stings led to arm swelling from "sausage fingers" to my armpit with hives.

I now have Medrol Dosepak, which I have begun immediately after sting begins to swell.  I also put ice and Adolphs meat tenderizer on the sting (Allegedly dissolves the venom for some people.  Not sure I see any improvement, but will try anything, including putting a penny there too!   ALERT  Some people actually get an allergic reaction to the meat tenderizer- it tenderizes their skin!.

My question is should I do anything different for different  hymenoptera stings, many different bees, wasps, hornets?   And what if I don't see the blasted rascals?   I live on a farm and there are MANY insects around all the time.
One more thing:  I have Rheumatoid Arthritis, under good control on Orencia and Methotrexate.

Hello and hope you are doing well.

Once the allergic reaction sets in epipen needs to be used irrespective of the kind of sting. But an allergy specialist can help identify the specific species that is likely to cause your reaction, he may even help to desensitize you.

Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
