How do I acclimate?

I am severely allergic to dogs and cats. Asthma, runny nose, etc.; I break out in hives if one licks me. Been like this since childhood, though my symptoms have lessened over the years. I'm now 47.

My parents got a dog a few years ago, but over time I have acclimated somewhat and now this particular animal doesn't seem to other me. I do not live with them, so my contact with the dog was sporadic.

My wife would like to buy a dog. Is there a way that I can "inoculate" myself for a given animal, hopefully speeding up the acclimation process?

Hi,

Well, I experience the same thing.  I get itchy from other people's pets but not my own, unless i handle them (particularly) the cats too much.  (I have 2 dogs and 2 cats).

Maybe you want to get a type of dog (like poodle) that tend to have less of an allergy problem.  You would also want to bath the dog regularly and keep it's living place clean to avoid dust mites etc, which could also add to the allergy issues.

Regular use of antihistamine may help to some extent.

Hey,

I am not too sure if that can be done. Instead i would like to ask you not to try and keep the pet if you are well aware that dogs cause allergy to u.

I am unaware if there is a "serum " like that.

i will try to find out and let u know if I find something

Best regards
