How long will I suffer the side effects from oral steroids following a ten day prescription?

by Eschauzier, Feb 03, 2009 02:51PM
I am a 33 year old woman. I contracted poison ivy and, after several days of worsening symptoms was given a course of generic oral steroids from a local clinic. The prescription was a 10 day course and I was not informed of the side effects that I was to suffer. Because of my harried state at the clinic I neglected to ask what those side effects might be. I would know soon enough. I immediately started bloating and gaining weight. My appetite became insatiable. My moods became erratic, I became irritable, and depression set in. From what I've read online I was most likely given a generic form of Prednisolone. It has been awful.
I finished the steroids three days ago but I'm still bloated, my mood swings are violent, and I'm largely irritable. Today is the first day I've been able to eat and satisfy my hunger in a sitting.
My question is, how long can I expect these side effects to linger? I'm beginning my menstrual cycle and having a difficult time distinguishing what is due to that and what is due to the drug.
Thank you for any help.

Hello,

After stopping this medicine(prednisolone),body may need time to adjust. The length of time this takes depends on the amount of prednisone taken, and how long it was used.Since it was used for approx 10 days in your case,so these side effects should disappear within a few days(10-15 days).

Hope it helps.Take care and regards.
