I had a cortizone shot Friday...that paralized me from the chest up

by BrandyWilson, Apr 21, 2007 12:00AM
I have known since I was 17 that I am allergic to Prednisone...At 51...Friday I got a shot in my knee for severe arthritis under my knee cap...No sooner the Doc had finished pressing the plunger of the syringe...My head immediately felt like it was burning and sitting on on the exam table...my arms dropped to my side...my pressure ...normally 98/68...shot up to 180/100...pulse got thready...respiration erratic...O2 levels dropped to 12 ...I couldn't lift arms, neck or head ...they moved me to a chair a my head flopped onto the exam table ...I as unable to lift it or my arms for the better part of 50 mins. Then O2 levels slowly returned to 30 and I came back to my self...

Q: Should I leave any medication with a "zone or sone" ending alone...stay "Zone Free"...if you will?

Ok I did a little research on your topic, and I found that an allergic reaction occurs when your immune system overreacts to something in a medicine. So the 'sone' in medicine may be exactly whats doing it. Talking to your doctor may be the best bet.  There are certain medicines I'm allergic to that have similar names, but I'm not allergic to all of them.
I don't know if this is helpful, but i hope it is.

I'm sorry - what medicine did they inject into your knee?  It's probably in the same class as Predisone...What did the doctor say?!  "Gee - look at that?" and let you go!?!?!   Dang!!  My reaction would be what the heck!!!!!!!!!!
