Immunotherapy Allergy Shots

What is the limiting factor in deciding how quickly to administer allergy shots? Is it simply a local or systemic reaction?
If the injections aren't creating any noticeable reactions would it be safe or advisable to increase the dosage strength or frequency?
The reason I ask is that I have received many different reports from different immunologists / allergists about the dosing amount and frequency. Some endorse a very slow, gradual program, others recommend twice weekly injections, others the "rush" program.
I am keen to quash my allergies ASAP and would be willing to make informed choices regarding accelerating my treatment.

From what I have read, it seems to be that if you can tolerate a rapid program with the aid of prednisone and antihistamines, then the results are just as good as the gradual long-term option.
Is this true in most cases? Is there a danger that rushing the treatment in any way would ultimately result in poorer outcomes?

(Please, before you feel the need to explain to me how I should consult my doctor and the dangers of anaphalaxys, etc, I do understand this and am simply trying to get a deeper understanding of the process so that I can be a more informed patient and take charge of my own health.)

In other words, I'm asking if the most rapid and efficient way to achieve the maintenance dose level is to increase the dose as much as you can tolerate each week, or if there is some other important reason why the shots should be increased so gradually.
