Is it allergies?

Is it allergies?

Ok, a cat adopted us the other day (long story).  My husband is known to be allergic to cats, but we had one for years and it wasn't bad.  He is not having any increased allergy symptoms with this cat.

The cat is NOT allowed upstairs where the bedrooms are.  We have a whole-house air purifier and a room IQAir, which we just bought for the family room where we mostly are.

The cat is almost hairless due to a flea allergy dermatitis she had.  I've been wiping her daily with a damp microfiber cloth.

My question is about my son.  He had tested borderline allergic to cats.  A day after we got her, he got stuffy, and is coughing some.  No itching eyes, no drippy nose, no sneezing.   Just the stuffy nose and the coughing (like post nasal drip cough).  Today (a day later) his brother (who did not test positive for cat, but is allergic to just about everything else) has a bit of a stuffy nose.  Today we were out of the house, in clothes never touched by the cat, for over 8 hours and kids are still stuffy.

So, what do you think?  Cold or cat allergies?  And, of course, my son is deeply in love with the cat now . . .

So, do you think

It sounds more like seasonal allergies to me.  Yes I understand your son may be allergic to the cat, but with the stuffy nose and coughing, it sounds more like seasonal allergies and unrelated to the cat.  However, there is no way to know for sure.  Only a doctor could tell you.  And it is possible that your son has developed a cat allergy since his test.  You may want to have him tested again. Go see the doctor to make sure that this is just seasonal allergies.  And if it is related to the cat, the doctor can help you find a way to live harmoniously with the cat despite the allergies.  I hope this helps and good luck.  Im a cat lover too!
