Is it an Allergy?

Is it an Allergy?

Far as I know, I have have no allergies and have never  but I recently began to running again in a daily basis and have gotten allergy symptoms. For example, my eyes are watery all the time and my nose is runny as well, all the time.

This might be a nonsense question but I was wondering if this can actually be allergies or its just something that spontaneously happens when I run?...

Think about where you run and you are exposed to while running and not as much in other areas.  There may be more pets or a certain pollen depending on the time of year and where you live that is causing allergies.

I personally always get a runny nose/eyes if I'm running in cooler winter (seems to be below 15 C that causes it, walking at the same temperature has no effect).  Running indoors helps a lot.

If I'm congested jogging/running does make my nose run more (hehe maybe my nose just wants to join in?), and I feel a lot better afterwards because it helps the overall drainage.

Hello,

Your symptoms are suggestive of allergic rhinitis. It is an allergic reaction triggered by pollen, mold, animal dander, dust and other similar inhaled allergens.

Diagnosis is done by skin testing. A diluted extract of allergen is applied to a scratch or puncture made on your arm or back or injected under your skin. With a positive reaction, a small, raised, reddened area with a surrounding flush (called a wheal and flare) will appear at the test site. Confirmatory tests is by blood tests (RAST).

It may be that the areas where you run may be having any of the air borne allergens.I would suggest a diagnostic test and then avoidance of that allergen.

Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted in case of any additional doubts.
