Is the perdnisone working ?

I have had fluid behind my ears for over a year with vertigo that comes and goes. 2 weeks ago the vertigo hit and lasted 13 days with fluid behind my ears. I finally went to the ENT. He has put me on prednsone for 15 days. Starting with a lg dose and tapering off every 5 days. I am on day 7 today. On day 5 I woke up with a very sore throat and lots of drainage and thought that was a good thing. Now I am steady blowing my nose ( very productive ) and it's also in my chest, I am coughing it up. Feels like I have a bad cold. I can't even stand to chew my food because it makes my jaws and ears hurt. I still feel the fluid in my ears.   I feel like I traded the vertigo for a head and chest cold.   Isthis normal ?

Hello and hope you are doing well.

Understand your concern. Looks like you have developed a throat infection and consequent chest infection. You will need to consult your doctor who may need to do a sputum culture and sensitivity to determine what antibiotic the organism is susceptible to.  He may even ask for blood test and an X ray. In the meantime take OTC acetaminophen for the pain, try to take warm oral fluids and do steam inhalations prior to your meals. This helps to loosen up and bring out the secretions.

Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
