Itchy swelled hand and feet during winters

I get inflammatory itchy hands and feet during winter. Particularly fingers are the most affected. They swell with redness and itches. It starts at the beginning of winter and goes away at the last of winter season.

Hi, welcome to the forum, yes, your condition seems to be allergy related and is suggestive of Atopic dermatitis (AD), which is a chronic inflammatory skin disorder. There is abnormal barrier presents in the skin which gets disrupted upon exposure to the allergen. It can be precipitated in cold or winter season.

The allergen can be in the form of excessive bathing, low humidity environments, emotional stress, xerosis (dry skin), overheating of skin, and exposure to solvents and detergents. Avoiding these situations is helpful for acute flares as well as for long-term management.

In such condition maintenance of adequate hydration of the skin is quite important. Which includes thick creams (eg, Eucerin, Cetaphil, Nutraderm), which have a low water content, or ointments (eg, petroleum jelly, Aquaphor, Petrolatum), which have zero water content, are better.

Along with above measure use of anti histamines and corticosteroids will help to reduce itching of the skin as well as rash. I suggest you to consult dermatologist. Take care and regards.

I have the exact same problem! It starts off super itchy and then your fingers start to swell and you feel like your walking on marbles.

I got recommended to a doctor and he said it sounded like rheumatoid arthritis.

He didnt want to start me on any medication, because this isnt considered a severe case..however this winter and last winter I didnt experience any symptoms.

Hopefully your body will do its job and the same will happen for you

Good luck!
