Levaquin Skin Reaction

I was prescribed Levaquin recently for a prostate infection. During the course of taking the antibiotic, I developed an acne-like reaction on my entire forhead. it has been two months since the reaction and the condition has not dimininshed. There were a couple of other members- "Bumpy3" and "rashy1" who experienced identical symptoms in a closed thread back in June/July. Has anyone else experienced this and had any luck with treatment?

Thanks

Here is a website about complaints with levaquin-- I myself now have Achilles2 tendonosis due to levaquin. I think the only thing that saved me from having it rupture is I was already on crutches because I had foot surgery.
http://www.consumeraffairs.com/rx/levaquin.html

Also is there anyway you can get to a natural path doctor. They might be able to help. Something that helped me was seeing a chiropractor who knew how to treat my foot. I do not know if the pain will ever go away but at least there are moments when I am pain free.

i was prescribed levoflaxcin - the generic brand for levoquin about 2 months ago for 7 days for the treatment of a bacterial infection. ever since my life has been a living hell! on the 3rd day of the medicine i developed serious dry mouth and i called the doctor who told me that is not a serious side effect and that i should continue taking it till i can. so i took it for all 7 days and my life has been a living hell since. I used to experience chest pains even while i was taking it and again i kinda briefly mentioned that to my doctor but it was not taken into account for stopping it. i should have listened to myself and just not contined.
Now my throat hurts really bad and my mouth is constantly dry making me want to drink water all the time and then run to the restroom. My heart still hurts specially after i eat food. My joints pain all the time with my fingers and feet always tingling to the point i am unable to lift anything and cant excercise. My eyes feel weird and i feel my csr ( central serous retinopathy ) has worsened after this med. I have recently after 2 months developed a lot of acne on my forehead, face ear and neck which i never did earlier. After i had stopped i had unbearable itching in my urine and back area to the point i could not even sit! everytime i have called the doctor and also spoke to couple of other doctors to which they did not help a bit and just told me to go back to the doctor who prescribed it!!!
the doctor pretty much says there must be something else oging on as they have never heard of someone with so many side effects from this medicine and that i should stop reading on the internet.
but now that i am reading how can all of them be untrue especially since i am experiencing all of the same side effects. i cant be making or imaging all of these. this medicine is really bad and i wish i had been told of its side effects or atleast if i had done some research on it. i always do it but didnt this first time and now i am paying for it.
my main problem is on the side and now i am struggling to become close to  normal again but i dont see much hope. i am in my my later 30s and did not have to go through this.
please if anyone knows the answers to this and how to revert my problems or a good doctor to refer to for this please let me know. or if anyone knows of an alternative medicine that has helped with these side effects it would be a huge help. otherwise i just am giving up hope that things will get better and that i will just have to live with these problems.
thank you

Have you found any relief for those blisters? I developed a bunch of blisters between my fingers and ocasionally on my legs while taken Levaquin a couple years ago. They come back ocasionally now and I have just had to wait for them to go away. They itch and I end up scratching, squeezing, and opening them. It is very annoying. If anyone you know has found relief from this condition please let me know or quote my post or pass my message along too. I see on TV there is now a possible class action suit against the manufacturer for the continued symtoms even after stopping use of this drug.

hello, i just wanted to add to my May 4th post. Leviquin triggered an autoimmune response in my elderly friend called Bullous Pemphigoid. There are mild to severe cases, and in many instances it is not known what caused it. In this case, documented by her physicians and specialists, this antibiotic was the cause. The result? Basically, Leviquin caused her immune system to eat away at the fluids that connected her skin to her body. Her entire body became covered in blisters, and, she could not undertake steroid therapy to alleviate her symptoms. She was allergic to them and just about any synthesized medicine you could think of.

Hello, i have been looking for people with specific reactions to this drug....a dear friend of mine who was elderly was given levaquin by a pharmaceutically heavy handed MD for simply a light case of pneumonia. Her immune system was very healthy and did not accept levaquin in her body. It treated levaquin as an allergin/virus and attacked it, causing an enormous immune system breakdown within her body. There is a name for this condition, which i can post, i need to check the exact term with her husband, The results....degeneration on a cellular level resulting in blistering all over the body. She even had these blisters inside her mouth and throat. There is no cure for this kind of reaction and she suffered terribly for three years prior to her death in August, 2007. If you have developed blisters that do not go away....see someone immediately, please.

I was prescribed Levaquin for a sinus infection yesterday.  I took the first dose yesterday evening.  Within 30 minutes, my entire scalp and part of my forehead had broken out into these huge bumps, and my scalp and ears were itching.  My face was also blood red.  I took some benadryl yesterday, but there are still bumps on my head.  Before yesterday, I had never had an allergic reaction to any kind of medication.

When I called the pharmacist to ask about it, he said "people don't usually have reactions to this medication. Just take some benadryl and don't take anymore of the Levaquin."  Well, the things I've read here and on other sites since yesterday tell me that I'm not alone.  I'm just glad it wasn't something much more serious than a skin reaction. Did your acne ever go away?  I just wonder if I have any more surprises to look forward to.

Same thing happens with me. Whenever I take either Levaquin or Cipro (almost the same thing as Levaquin) for a prostate infection I get pimples in my forehead too -- often right in the middle where they look the worst. I apply over-the-counter acne medications to try to hold back the acne. But it is exactly as you describe. If I take Bactrim, this does not happen.

My name is Kaela. My boyfriend of 3 years has an 8 year old girl with severe excema. I never knew what it was until I saw her poor skin. It would crack and bleed all the time when we used to cover her in eucerin. I used to wait until she'd been sleeping a bit and then lather more on her. Nothing ever changed. Then I was introduced to a company that only produces botanically based products. My boyfriend and his ex-wife were more than willing to try it out so we began with these few products. I am soo thoroughly impressed with her results that I buy stuff for myself and all of my family. Her cracking and bleeding went away completely after a month and you could see results in just a couple of days. She no longer was scratching in her sleep and wearing band-aides to school. If you want more information let me know I think everyone should use this on their children and themselves. They have products that are all botanically based from Baby care- Vitamins-Remidies-Acne- to Anti-aging. If you have any questions e-mail me I found tons of information. ***@**** or ***@****

semmaf,

Thanks so much. I'm learning the hard way that you cannot accept a doctor's advice without doing your own homework first.

http://www.medicationsense.com/articles/july_sept_03/reactions_cipro_other.html

This is a link to a page that tells about different reactions to Levaquin and a few other antibiotics. It also gives some other links dealing with your type of reaction.

I hope this helps you. I found some information that was helpful to my Mom, who also had a bad reaction to Levaquin. She ended up at the ER, where they said that it was her sinuses and gave her some anti-inflammatories which she also had a reaction to, and told her to continue the antibiotic. Luckily, we got in touch with her GP and he told her to stop taking all of the meds. She ended up having to go on an anti-depressant and blood pressure medicine in order to control some of the side effects. She is doing better now, but still is on the anti-depressant and blood pressure meds.
