Liquor Allergy (not beer)

Liquor Allergy (not beer)

When I drink liquor, I break out in rashes all over my body and my throat closes up. However, this does not happen with beer usually. About once a year if I drink beer it happens as well. I used to be able to drink liquor, but the allergy began developing, first with dark liquor and then with all liquor. Is there anything I can do other than not drink liquor? It's so good!

How are you? The key to an allergy-free diet is to avoid all foods or products containing the food you are allergic to. Alcohol allergy is a reaction caused by intake of alcohol. This occurs because of inadequacy of an enzyme which is required in metabolizing alcohol. The consumption of alcohol may trigger rashes, difficulty in breathing, stomach cramps, headache and drop in blood pressure.

Allergy testing can help in identifying which specific factor you are allergic to. Having established a correct allergy diagnosis, the physician is better equipped to select appropriate therapeutic interventions for you  such as allergen avoidance, medications, and, sometimes, immunotherapy. And perhaps identify which kind of liquor you can take.

I hope this helps. Take care and keep us posted.
