Nasal discharge at mealtimr

Greetings to the group. I have an occasionally recurring problem related to mealtime. My nasal passages are stimulated to produce watery discharge that lasts the whole meal and usually well beyond. I go through a handful of tissues at every meal.

I have been to an allergist once about this and he told me there is a nerve that connects the esophogus with the nasal passages and this nerve was overstimulating the production of nasal fluid. He gave me a scrip for something to take shortly before a meal. I believe it was a nasal spray but after the symptoms went away I no longer used it and now I do not know where it is or what it was. I don't remember the name of the allergist (it was a number of years ago) or I would ask for a reorder.

Is anyone familiar with this syndrome and/or put a name to it so I can do more research or get med recommendations?

Thanks in advance for any replies and help.

Hello,
One of the reasons for your symptoms can be vasomotor rhinitis. It is believed to be caused by oversensitive or excessive blood vessels in the nasal membrane and can be caused by eating spicy foods, change in weather, temperature or barometric pressure.

Treatment usually consists of oral decongestants, nasal sprays (saline, antihistaminic and steroid) and surgery in resistant cases. Please discuss this possibility with an allergist.
It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
