Nocturnal Hives

Nocturnal Hives

I have been experiencing nocturnal hives for the last few weeks.  I have had a similar, but much milder and shorter term, of these hives previously.  The hives develop between 1am and 6am regardless if I am sleeping or not.  The hives appear on my thighs, back of the forearms and sides of my upper body.  They have never been on my back, face, neck or lower legs. They have not itched previously and go away by mid morning.  The use of antihistamines have helped, somewhat.  Although, when I stopped the use of a antihistamine they hives were worse.  I have kept a food diary to find clues to possible causes.  I cannot identify what it is.  I have an appointment with an allergist.  My goal is to find an answer and not just be given more antihistamines.

Thanks,

Hi,
How are you? Hives are usually an allergic reaction to food or medicine and other triggers such as animal dander , insect bites, pollen and even emotional stress, extreme temperature, excessive perspiration and certain illnesses.  In most cases ,the cause is unknown and difficult to identify. Try to identify the possible trigger that you could avoid. Avoid also hot baths or showers and irritating the area with tight-fitting clothing. Continue your antihistamine medicine to ease any symptom and if it persists, you may benefit from a referral to a dermatologist. An allergy test may be indicated. Take care and best regards.
