Odd Rash on Finger

I have a rash on my left hand ring finger that has been there since Thanksgiving 2008.  It is not caused by my wedding ring as I haven't worn it since Thanksgiving 2008 when the rash first showed up.  The rash started off with one or two small, pimpley bumps that were itchy.  Then it dried out really badly, making my skin peel and crack.  The pimpley bumps came back and spread down to the base between the two fingers (ring and pinky), and spread up to the middle knuckle.  Then the rash started to swell and got red and itchy.
I have used Neosporin, Tea Tree oil, Nystatin (antifungal), and Hydrocortizone 2.5%.  I have been keeping my hands clean and dry, and moisturized with lotion.  I don't have insurance and am already paying on a $4500 hospital bill for a car accident injury that was not my fault (the other driver ran a red and hit me, and the lawyer "forgot" to pay this bill 3 years ago).  The LAST thing I need right now is to have some huge medical bill.
If ANYBODY has ANY ideas, PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!

I had something similar to this and the doctor thought it was fungal related.  He gave me fungal perscriptions, two different kinds but it neither worked.  I bought some over the counter antifungal creams and it actually worked for me.  I forget which brand I got, but I have to say if you buy one cream and that ingredient doesn't work try another brand with a higher strengh or/and a different antifungal ingredient.

I really think I caught this problem from digging in my garden without gloves.  And I wouldn't wear a ring back on until this clear up. Sweating under the band just is a breeding ground for this kind of thing.

There is a related discussion about an allergy mystery - a woman w/ a white gold ring that only causes problems on left ring finger.  That is the same problem I am having, but I was wearing this same ring since March 2007.  The reaction didn't pop up until Nov 2008.  Also I have used cortisone cream, both otc and rx strength.  I will try to take photos and post them - if that's  possible.  I know it sounds like an easy solution, just go to the doctor.  The problem is I don't want to go to my regular doctor if he's just going to tell me to go to a specialist, and I don't have insurance.  So all of my doctor visits come straight out of my pocket.  Is it possible to post pics on this forum?

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi
Thanks for writing to the forum!
It is difficult to comment without examination. This looks like dermatitis. Try OTC cortisone cream. If the symptoms do not subside consult a skin specialist.
Other possibilities are fungal infection and eczema. Antifungals you have been using. Eczema too should respond to cortisone cream.
Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
