Pet allergies

Am allergic to feathers and certain types of upholstery packings

Recently and only recently have noticed allergic reaction to cats,one house in particular belonging to friends that i have visited on many many occassions and whose cat they have had for 3 years

Can these type of allergies occur in middle age after 40 years of no known occurences?

Yes, I know it sounds strange but one can develop allergies to anything the person was not allergic to earlier at any time during the life. This is because some allergies are not very strong and over a time repeated exposure to the allergen triggers an allergic response. Other times a person is allergic to a particular thing and then develops an allergy to a related thing subsequently.
