Please help!!!

I am 23 weeks pregnant with my 3rd baby and about 2 weeks ago started waking up in the middle of the night with this hive like rash.  It seems to only come at night.  At first I was told it was stress then contact dermatitis then finally due to the pregnancy.  I have been taking benadryl which seems to help but sometimes I feel really feverish all over my body without hives.  This is causing me a great deal of anxiety because I dont seem to fit into the pupps criteria that I am reading from everyone else. Has anyone ever experienced anything like this or have any advice for me???

Also to add to my previous comment about the rash being only at night I want to know if I do have pupps why does it come and go?  Everyone Im reading about seems to have the rash all the time with similar characteristics.  Can it be in different forms ect???  Im desperate for answers and I hate being scared every night when its time for bed that Im going to wake up covered in a unknown rash.  I think its the "unknown" part that scares me.  I just wish someone could tell me for sure.  I would do the biopsy but I only get the hives at night.  I beg of anyones info or advice Im consumed with anxiety and making myself sick over this!!!

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi, welcome to the forum, the most common causes of skin manifestations in pregnancy are Pemphigoid gestationis, Pruritic urticarial papules and plaques of pregnancy (PUPPP, also known as polymorphic eruption of pregnancy), Prurigo of pregnancy, Pustular psoriasis of pregnancy (impetigo herpetiformis) and Cholestasis.

In your case, PUPP seems to be possible cause. The early, urticarial phase (hives) of pemphigoid gestationis can mimic PUPPP. The two disorders can be distinguished by direct immunofluorescence of a biopsy specimen. Drug reactions, viral syndromes, and infestations (scabies) may also present with erythematous eruptions or hives similar to PUPPP. The proper clinical history will help to differentiate among these entities.

I suggest you to consult gynecologist for further evaluation. Take care and regards.

I would say go back to your doctor and make sure you tell them all your symptoms. When you wake up at night feeling really feverish do you take your temp. if not maybe you should and keep a record so you can give that to your doctor as well
