Possible reaction to doxycycline

by mogwai0, Jul 04, 2009 01:57AM
I was recently tested positive for an STD and given Doxycycline. At first it made me throw up so I went back for another antibiotic but after a week my symptoms hadn't gone away, so I started the doxy again except with food.

Here is the problem-I seem to be getting rashes and red patches of skin that don't itch, some swell slightly, one looks like a slight blister, some come and go within hours, most about the size of a dime. One spot the size of my palm has been on my leg for almost a week, though I probably made it worse with scratching.

Is this common? Should I be concerned or not? I know doxy can cause rashes but I was wondering to what extent..And I'm also worrying it may not be a reaction but something more I may have caught from this partner.

I tried looking it up with google but all I come up with that it's a possible side effect, no details.

Thank you.

Hi
Thanks for writing to the forum!
Yes Doxycycline can cause both non specific rash—skin discoloration and also hives that itch. However if there is a history of unprotected sex, it would be wise to get a complete STD panel done.
Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
