Rash

Update to 3/12 question - My doctor determined that I have several different rashes that are allergic reactions to my environment, plus vitalago, which is not. I recently moved into a house that had mold issues and they were supposedly corrected but the landlord replaced the carpet throughout AFTER the certificate of all clear was issued. And the dryer vent was never checked for mold. My doctor said a person can pick up on minute traces of mold over a perod of time that the environmental companies hired to do tests miss. He prescribed a steriod, antibiotic, and antihistimine for the symptoms and we have to address the vitalago.

Hi, welcome to the forum, yes, your condition seems to be allergy related and is suggestive of  Atopic dermatitis (AD), which is a chronic inflammatory skin diorder. There is abnormal barrier presents in the skin which gets disrupted upon exposure to the allergen.

The allergen can be in the form of excessive bathing, low humidity environments, emotional stress, xerosis (dry skin), overheating of skin, and exposure to solvents and detergents. Avoiding these situations is helpful for acute flares as well as for long-term management.

In such condition maintenance of adequate hydration of the skin is quite important. Which includes thick creams (eg, Eucerin, Cetaphil, Nutraderm), which have a low water content, or ointments (eg, petroleum jelly, Aquaphor, Petrolatum), which have zero water content, are better.

Along with above measure use of anti histamines and corticosteroids will help to reduce itching of the skin as well as rash.

The various modality of treatment for vitiligo are Corticosteroids, Calcineurin inhibitors and Ultraviolet light. Approximately 55 percent of patients with localized vitiligo responded to mid potency topical corticosteroids. Topical or oral psoralens plus ultraviolet A radiation (photo chemotherapy or PUVA), or ultraviolet B (UVB) radiation (phototherapy) is used in patients with more extensive vitiligo. Narrow band UVB is a newer treatment that may be more effective for vitiligo than traditional UVB or PUVA.

I suggest you to consult a Dermatologist for the appropriate therapy in your condition. Take care and regards.
