Red Circles Under Eyes Following Vigorous Exercise

My 10 year old son has dark red circles under his eyes following football practice. This only happens after vigorous exercise. Can someone help me understand what the nature of this is? Is this related to alergies (allergies) or something else?

Someone once told me that dehydration can caused that. Is he getting enough water?
