Shortness of breath!!

On wednesday night I woke up basically gasping for air... it seemed as though my air passage was being blocked.  The next day I went running and same thing happened... it felt as though i could not get enough air into my system.  I started wheezing and gasping for air.  I slowed down a little and regained my breathing....  My eyes have been itchy and it felt like I was getting tonsilitis on friday - it hurt to even swallow!!  Every night except for saturday I have felt like I am not getting enough air!  This just started happening to me - any ideas what it could be??  Seasonal allergies or something??

Hi,

How are you doing now?

If inhaler medication has helped with your symptoms you should talk to your doctor about getting a lung function testing and chest xray to find the exact cause and extent of the symptoms.

Do you have any nasal symptoms?

What medications/ inhalers are you taking currently?

Let us know about any doubts that you have.

Regards.

There is no history of asthma or allergies (for that matter) in my family....  I haven't had tests done but went to the doctor - he figures it might be seasonal asthma - just acts up at certain times of the year.  I am currently on an inhaler to try and calm it down - if it doesn't work, then I have to go back for testing....  So far, it has definitely helped.

Hi,

What is your age? Do you have history of asthma or rhinitis in the past or family history?

What other symptoms are you having?

You should try some steam inhalation and saline nasal drops alongwith oral antihistamine medications and see if it helps with your symptoms.

Are you allergic to any specific substances?

Has a CT scan of the sinuses been done? Has a chest xray been done ?

If your symptoms still persist, it would help to consult your doctor and get a proper clinical examination to rule out a chest or throat infection.

Let us know about how you are doing and if you have any other doubts.

Regards.
