Silicone allergies

by giraffebaby, Feb 10, 2009 09:14AM
I have a sleeve which has silicone on it;  it is made to help dry elbows.  I wore it two nights ago, and I have a huge
swollen, red, warm place on my arm.  It's like a huge knot.  I've had similar problems before after wearing it, but not this bad.

Does anyone have any ideas - has anyone heard of this before

Hi
Thanks for writing to the forum!

Silicone allergy is possible but it is very rare. However in your case it could be contact dermatitis due to too much contact with silicone. Interestingly silicone is also present in many household items, such as polishes, waterproof coatings, chewing gum, suntan and hand lotion, antiperspirants, processed foods, and soaps. You should read ingredient of the items you use and try to minimize the intake and contact with other items containing silicone, if you need to wear this silicone sleeve.

Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
