Smoke Smelling

Smoke Smelling

Oh good grief... I have been smelling smoke off and on for about a year now and it really bugs me. I thought it was because I had just went though menopause (which causes one to dry out, I was guessing it was effecting my eyes and sinuses as well) and I also have C.R.E.S.T. syndrome. I had been diagnosed about 6 years ago with fibromyalgia, but now my Doctor and I think it was the C.R.E.S.T.  I also am having problems with painful swelling of the salivary glands located between the ear and the jaw. Often tasting different liquids or foods will elicit pain and it momentarily makes me want to jump out of my skin.  Both these symptoms started close to the same time. I told the Doctor about the painful glands but I have never mentioned the smoke smelling. I didn’t want her to put a check in the nut box.

Hi,

You could be having parosmias - altered smells with or without a stimulus. These could be due to various causes.

It would be advisable to consult a neurologist for this and the other symptoms that you are having to get a proper clinical examination done.

It is best to enlist all your symptoms when seeing your doctor as these could be related or important to come to a diagnosis.

Do let us know what the neurologist advises.

Hope this helps.

Good luck.
