On top of this: As a kid, I was constantly lethargic and sick. I have horrible dark circles under my eyes, my face is long and droned. My ENT doctor said I have inflammatory airway disease. I constantly have tons of mucus in my throat and I cough all the time, even when I'm not sick. I had my allergies tested when I was a kid and they came back negative. They said I wasn't allergic to anything. I'm getting my allergies tested again soon.
I'm terribly frustrated. There must be some kind of underlying factor here. My immune system is, and has always been, very weak. What could possibly be going on!!!? Please, I'm tired of paying all these doctors fees and getting nothing. I need a direction.
This is screaming one thing to me - Celiac Disease!
Did you ever get tested for this? It's a blood test first, then possibly an endoscopy. If this is it, your simple solution will be to go on a gluten free diet. I have celiac & was just diagnosed about 8 months ago - and I'm SO much better since!
You should probably never go back to that jerk Gastroenterologist (sp?) again... sounds like he didn't want to help. My GI doc was also sortof annoying, I basically TOLD him I had Celiac and he thought it might be IBS, I had him do the endoscopy & sure enough I was right.
Your skin problems, inability to gain weight, lethargy (are you anemic? that was my worst symptom) dark circles (I had them so bad - they're getting better!), stomach pains, etc etc really seem to be Celiac. It's tough to diagnose. If you don't want to deal with doctors - just stop eating gluten for 3-5 months & see how you feel. BUT if you do want to get tested, you need to eat normally. I say to test for so long because it takes a long time to heal...
Google "Celiac Disease" to get more information - or go to some Gluten Free Forums to get advice, although everyone on those sites will be conviced it's a gluten problem, but FYI, 1 out of 133 people have this and only about 1-2% know it!
GOOD LUCK! I hope you figure out what's wrong... let us know!
This almost sounds like me. I gag on mucus and vomit 1-3 times a week and think I have acid reflux, my dad does have it, really bad. I am looking up Celiac disease, thanks!
