Sunburn reaction

If the sunburn is bad enough, after the redness has diminished but before it starts to peel, I get a significantly painful reaction. It feels as if there are many needles being pricked into the affected area sporadically(normally back and shoulders). It is painful enough to the point that I can't accomplish anything. The more attention the area is shown(rubbing lotion or agitation of any kind) the more severe the attack is. I have talked to several people and noone has experienced anything of this nature. Should I see a physician?

Hi,
      How are you? Severe sun burn can cause redness, pain, irritation, burning, blistering, dehydration, electrolyte imbalance and infection. Further this can lead to shock. Peeling is usually not seen in sunburn.
I would suggest that you visit a dermatologist for examination and further assistance on treatment.
