What is your age? Since when are you having the symptoms? Have you had similar
complaints in the past?
Do you have any problem with swallowing? Do you have any hoarseness of voice?
You are suffering from ' tonsillitis' most probably from the description that
you have given.
'Symptoms of tonsillitis include a severe sore throat (which may be experienced
as referred pain to the ears), painful/difficult swallowing, headache, fever and
chills, and change in voice causing a "hot potato" voice. Tonsillitis is
characterized by signs of red, swollen tonsils which may have a purulent
exudative coating of white patches (i.e. pus). There may be enlarged and tender
neck cervical lymph nodes.'
'Bacterial tonsillitis may be caused by Group A streptococcal bacteria,
resulting in strep throat. Viral tonsillitis may be caused by numerous viruses
such as the Epstein-Barr virus (the cause of infectious mononucleosis)or the
Adenovirus.'

About the course of management in your case -
'You should take steps to relieve pain and inflammation. Recovery may take a
week or two.
* Drink warm, soothing liquids — such as soup, broth and tea.
* Gargle with warm salt water.
* Take acetaminophen (Tylenol, others) or ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin, others)
to help reduce fever and decrease pain. Because of the risk of Reye's syndrome —
a potentially life-threatening illness — don't give aspirin to children younger
than age 12.'
'Tonsillitis caused by a virus is typically treated with self-care. If
tonsillitis is caused by a bacterial infection, your doctor may prescribe
antibiotics. Oral penicillin typically needs to be taken for at least 10
days.Other antibiotics may have shorter courses.'

Hey, I have friend who has swollen lymphs (her doc says they are trying to excrete waste into neck!?!?!), fever - 38.5degrees, no sore throat, no trouble speaking, and white coating on her tonsils.
I am having issues with what the doctor says and am trying to get her to see another doctor. They have given her a course of antibiotics which isn't working. They have done no boipsy or blood tests.
Your friend could be suffering from tonsillitis - you could ask your doctor to be a little more clear and that would help you understand with what's going on.
The lymph nodes tend to enlarge or increase in size during an infection, inflammatory process or secondary to trauma.
You should ask your friend to -
Drink warm, soothing liquids — such as soup, broth and tea.
* Gargle with warm salt water.
* Take acetaminophen (Tylenol, others) or ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin, others)
to help reduce fever and decrease pain.
