Swollen tongue

Boy am I glad I found this site!  My 12 y.o. son started having bouts with tongue swelling at night.  It recurs if he fails to continue daily Allegra.  We've tested everything and nothing stands out.  He has seasonal allergies, cat, dust and mold allergies but not significant.  We thought it may be the Arm & Hammer Baking Soda Toothpaste which has been reported to cause the same symptoms.  We changed to Aquafresh and same results.  We're at our wits end but the discussion here has given me good leads to follow-up on.  Another avenue of research is his tetanus shot booster that was given to him a few days before the first episode.  The doctors have dismissed it without really pursuing it.  I'm just frustrated....

We recently received a three-pack of Aquafresh from a friend who found it on sale so she purchased a pack for herself and for us. Our normal brand is Crest but we decided to give Aquafresh a try. I began to notice irritation on my tongue which I thought was probably from biting it while I slept. Soon after, the irritation became so bad I could not sleep and my gums began to get sore also, then the uncontrollable sneezing would start, and last night I experienced shortness of breath even though I was sitting upright. I was brushing in the morning and before bedtime. I soon realized and explained to my spouse that I believed the toothpaste was causing the problem. As a child I had broken out in hives and taken to the hospital. The doctor asked my mother if she had changed anything and she later realized she had purchased a cheaper brand of bleach. The Aquafresh was the only new item I weas using. My spouse revealed she had developed a blister on the inside of her bottom lip and she had began the sneezing as well which was totally abnormal for her. Just yesterday, I purchased a new tube of Crest and discontinued using the Aquafresh. The soreness in my tongue and gums has already began to subside. I plan on reporting this to the FDA and found their website for reporting is not very user-friendly. I hope this helps you or someone else.

I agree with trying organic toothpastes. A huge ingredient in many toothpastes (beside fluoride) is sodium lauryl(th) sulfate. I cannot have this as I get a rash, bloody nose, and I my hands like crazy, it can also give me migraines.

Good luck,

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello,
Your son is allergic to many allergens but most of them are inhalational. If he is having swelling of the tongue at frequent intervals and relief being offered by Allegra, it can be due to allergy to the toothpaste. Change to an organic toothpaste and consult an allergist and get a skin test for allergy testing done for the ingredients of the toothpaste. Also keep a regular food diary and try to note the food/drinks after which he starts having these symptoms.
It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.

Welcome to the forum.
Please be patient for one more week!
Try Dr. Coca's Pulse test (free download) . It takes a week of taking his pulse at various times and keeping track of  his food and drink intake.
At the end you will find out what the offending (allergic or reactive ) substances are,
with an almost 100% accuracy!
For relief meanwhile you can try a gargle with turmeric in warm water (use a little honey to make it more palatable for your son) 3  times daily.
You can check the spinal release procedure I posted for "mariyamari" on Dec.27th.
It is a very successful Allergy/Reaction/Sensitivity protocol.
Use natural/organic toothpaste if possible. Check other commonly used "cosmetic" items (its a very large category of products)  for toxic or harmful ingredients.

Everything I suggest is Holistic and Natural, however, do your own research first, before trying any suggestions.
Blessings to you and your family.
