Symbicort not helping for severe allergies

What is the next step if Symbicort (the strongest strength) is not working all the way?  Symbicort is being used for severe allergies.  Asthsma, bronchitis, and COPD ruled out by a pulmonary doctor.  Have taken for almost 2 weeks.  Could it be excessive mucus?  Why is Sybicort only working to a certain extent?  Thanks for any help.

Hi,

Symbicort is not an allergy medication at all.  It is a cominbation medication generally used to treat asthma and COPD.  Ocassionally it is prescribed to help people get over the lingering cough from a cold faster.  Symbicort contains an inhaled steroid and a long acting broncho-dilater.  You should ask your doctor if you need to continue taking this medication.

Some suggestions for treating allergies:
1)  Take and antihistamine like Zyrtec or Allegra.  Both have generic versions available.  Benadryl and Claritin are not as strong as Zyrtec and Allegra.
2)  Shower before going to bed to remove pollens collected in your hair during the day.
3)  Keep doors and windows closed.
4)  Sinus rinse - admittedly gros, but they are amazing!!
5)  Wash bedding in HOT water weekly.

Feel better soon.

God bless.
