Tingly, Stabbing, Itchy, pins & needles pain

I have been getting this feeling since last summer. Whenever I feel hot, make a sudden movement or just sitting/laying down I get a tingly, needle like sensation all over my back and around my torso. It's not constant. It stopped around November and just started back up this week. My doctor has no answer for me since last summer when it started. I've been prescribed muscle relaxers and they don't help at all. What is this sensation a result of?

This could be silent shingles ( shingles without the rash ) if you have ever had chicken pox. It could also be a nerve damage related issue.
