URGENT ADVICE NEEDED

My husband had just gone through LFT and the concern areas are the increases value of SGOT & SGPT-  The values are SGOT - 48.9U/l  & SGPT - 84.3 U/l.  He is going through medication for BP and Uric acid. For BP medicines Nebistar 2.5 and Olmesartan & Medamoxmil20 are continuing and for uric acid Medicines Zyloric & Nodocis.
during his childhood he had also suffered from Jaundice and stomach stone problem. Please kindly advice us on the above problem ASAP as we are very worried for the same.

Hi, welcome to the forum. Plasma levels of aspartate and alanine aminotransferases (AST [SGOT] and ALT [SGPT]) are routinely measured to assess liver function.

Normally SGPT and SGOT level is below 40 IU/L. Your levels are mildly high.  SGPT is marker of liver diseases or liver conditions. The liver conditions are hemochromatosis, methotrexate- or amiodarone-induced hepatic injury, chronic hepatitis C virus infection, post-jejuno-ileal bypass and nonalcoholic and alcoholic fatty liver disease.  Usually in such conditions the levels are above 500 IU/L.

Other conditions like celiac disease, Hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism, Adrenal insufficiency and certain antibiotics use can increase the level marginally.

You need to consult gastroenterologist for assessment of SGPT levels. Take care and regards.
