Uknown allergy/parasite

Someone I know has had a problem for several years. He says he can feel bugs crawling on him, especially his face and up his nose. They are especially active at night. He has seen three dermatologitsts and one allergist and they have offered no answers. Blood tests have confirmed though that he is experiencing high levels of allergens. Our best two guesses would be bed bugs or dust mites. He's tried using exterminators, steam cleaning carpet and furniture, and is using a dehumidifier and air purifier (to combat dust mites). If more information is required I can speak with him again, but he is really frustrated and wants to know what it is and how to stop it.

I also have Morgellons and have had it for the last 2.5 years. In the beginning I was treated for parasites but after taking Albendazole and Ivermectin for a whole year I still have the symptoms. The doctors tell me it's all in my head. Grrrr! I live on an acreage outside Calgary and my water comes from a well. Maybe this is where it comes from? Who really knows? Hopefully the CDC will discover the cause and come up with a cure. If anyone out there knows of a doctor here in Calgary that will listen or thinks they know how to get rid of this horrible condition please email me. mj_rielly***@****

Hi,

It would be advisable to consult his doctor once and ask him /her if an allergy specialist or neurologist needs to be consulted.

It would help to get an insight into whether this has an allergic cause or any neurological origin.

Is his blood sugar within the normal limits?

Do keep us posted about his progress.

Hope this helps.
Good luck.

Okay I've spoken with him again. The only symptom he has of Morgellons is the crawling sensation on his skin. So I am kind of doubting it could be that.

It occurs throughout the day but happens most at night. It even happens outside of the home, making me want to rule out bed bugs as well. I must add that I've stayed the night at his home several times and do not experience this, neither do the other people who live with him. They seem to live on him, especially in his nose. Could this be dust mites? Is he extra sensitive to something?

Hello and thanks for responding. Morgellon's disease is a possibility although the only symptom of that disease he is experiencing is the sensation of insects crawling/biting. There are no "bites" or other skin lesions. I will speak with him more about the symptoms of Morgellons.

Hi,

It is important that he consult his dermatologist at the earliest. Ask him to read up the following and see if his symptoms fit.

I've recently heard of something called Morgellon's Disease (spelling?). This is where people itch everywhere and feel like things are crawling on their skin. The itching is relieved for awhile when they pull what seems to a fiber from their skin. Could your friend have this disease?
