Unexplained Rash.

Unexplained Rash.

Hello I am Mike and I have been having a rash problem going on 4 years now.
When ever my body temperature rises from exercising, sunlight, temperature, anxiety, nervousness; pretty much anything that will cause the body temperature to rise I will break out in a extremely painful rash with hives on my abdomen, chest, lower and middle back, neck, scalp, underarms and feet. I have been tested for all common allergens and nothing.

The symptoms started when I tried out an acne medication at first being my first medication I thought this was what was supposed to happen. After stopping the use the rashes went away until 1 day in high school woods class I had a major break out and it has been non stop ever since.

Oddly enough depending the temperature the rashes will not come. If I am in a warm climate from wake till sleep I will have no rash. If its a cool day and I exercise, shower or well do anything I will break out.

Allergy medication like Benadryl and Claritin do little use and take awhile for the pain to stop.

The rash remains around 30minutes after the pain subsides before it goes away and I usually will not have another break out after that no matter what I do.

PS: Sorry for the long post its just I would like to know what is wrong because it is very hard for me to do anything while trying to keep my body temperature down.

Maybe your suffering from Cholinergic Urticaria, go check it out, it looks like that by the symptoms you have!!!!!

Wow this is the most definable diagnosis that I have yet to come by. I will be asking about this to my doctor tomorrow and getting some tests started to confirm it. I thank you a lot for this. :)

Hi, welcome to the forum, as rightly pointed out by Maya_33, Cholinergic urticaria (sometimes called generalized heat urticaria) describes hives that are precipitated by an increase in core body temperature. Common triggering agents include exercise, strong emotions, and bathing in hot water etc. It usually starts after 20 years of age.

There are two typed of tests can be done like methacholine injection or by non-exertional elevation of the patient's core body temperature (putting arms in hot water) which can trigger the rash and confirms the diagnosis.

Treatment plan includes avoid bathing in hot water and heavy exercise in hot climate etc. Medical therapy consists of starting oral H1 antihistamines on daily basis or when the reaction can be anticipated. Other drugs like ketotifen, danazol and omalizumab against prescription can be tried if anti histamines are ineffective. I suggest you to consult allergy specialist. Take care and regards.

Alright so sorry for not posting on this sooner I had to go on an emergency trip down south for some family matters.(all resolved no worries)

During the time I was away I was in a very warm climate(Vancouver, BC) compared to where I live now(Northern BC) and on a few days it was getting to 30C(86F). Amazingly I was able to go for a run around outside do pretty much everything I am unable to do up north because of this rash.

After visiting the doctor yesterday he did a test on my skin with his finger to see if my skin was loaded with histamines which it was his enitals he wrote on my stomach puffed up in a red rash. I being nervous about visiting the doctor and being warm in the office I broke out in my painful rash(the doctor was suprised he said in his 35years of practicing he has never seen anything like it). Now I am being recommended to see a dermatologist but that wont be for around a month.

I am now also taking Hydroxyzine and Prednisone to see if there is any change with the rash but so far no luck.
