Urticaria/Hives

early this year i developed skin rashes, it started on my stomach then later on it appears in my arms, then all over my body. the rashes are red big wheal and it is very itchy. i went to the hospital and the doctor said that i have urticaria, she prescribed me a medicine called fexofenadine. the med is very helpful everytime the rashes appears, i just take the medicine and the rashes will gone but i have to take it everyday, i dont know if this medicine have side effects. my mother have also urticaria and my neighbor also develops skin rashes, i dont know where i get this or what will be the treatment for this type of allergy because it really affects my daily activities.

Hi,

You should continue with the antihistamine medications and review with your skin specialist about how you are doing.

You should try to keep the area dry and clean. Try some powder to absorb the sweat. Use a medicated sunscreen lotion - preferably one prescribed by a skin specialist and re apply it every 2 hrs. Apply calamine lotion at the sites. Wash the sites with fresh water several times daily.

Let us know if you have any doubts and keep us posted on how you are doing.

Hope this helps.

Good luck.

Hi,

Nothing can be said with surety about the hives appearing again. Do you remember any trigger factor for your symptoms?

You could stop the medications in consultation with your doctor , but do keep some antihistamine medications at hand for use in case of a sudden flare up of symptoms.

You could read more about fexofenadine at the following link -

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fexofenadine

Let us know if you need any other information and post us about how you are doing.

Regards.
