What allergy is this?

Couldn't find the right topic to put this in.

I have recently started having an allergic reaction to my thermometer which I use every morning orally. I take my temp immediately on waking and within half an hour (before I have touched/drank/eaten) my lips swells up quite a lot. I then get very itchy inside wrists which break out into bumps and a rash (hives?). The wrists take about 2 hours to clear up but my lip takes most of the day to go down.
I have a nickel allergy (dermatitis) when I wear certain jewellery or watches.
I can't figure out if it is the metal in the tip or the plastic? I have used this thermometer before but it was a couple of years ago and during this time I dveloped the nickel allergy.
Any ideas on what I could be reacting to?

Thanks for writing to the forum!
If it is an electrical thermometer then the tip is made of metal. If you are allergic to nickel, you can be allergic to many other metals too. If it is a glass thermometer, then the tip is made up of glass, which is again a combination of many elements.
