Why do i have breathing problem only in my home?

by karyn19, Jan 08, 2009 08:32AM
Hello,I hope somebody will be able to help me....I live in my home for 8 years now and before that I never have any kind of breathing problems. And now for 4 or 5 years it is getting wrose and worse it is never going away only when I am in vacation!
It is like i am  sick all the time. I can't breath by my nose because it is stuffed up every day,in my throat i feel a disconfort and my glands are out all the time. because of that I don't sleep very well anymore so I am tired and have no energy during the day.
At first, it happened only to me but now my family feel it too so that is why I wonder if it is not something in our home? But what? the air? the carpet? I don't know. The house has no humidity and is very sain.
I went to see my doctor several time but he never finds something!
So, anybody in the same situation?
Thanks.

Hello,

It seems that you are having hay fever or allergic rhinitis.

Allergic rhinitis is a collection of symptoms, predominantly in the nose, throat and eyes, caused by airborne particles of dust, dander, mold or plant pollens in people who are allergic to these substances.

When a person with allergies breathes in an allergen such as pollen or dust, antibodies are produced. When the antibodies are stimulated by pollen and dust, histamine and other chemicals are released. This causes itching, swelling, and mucus production.

Pls contact an allergic specialist and get skin tests like skin ***** test done. In this a small amount of allergen is introduced into the skin of the forearm and the reaction of the skin is noted. If there is any redness then that person is allergic to the allergen introduced.

You can also get blood tests like RAST done. These will help in determining the causative allergen. Then avoidance of that allergen is the best treatment.

Hope it helps. Take care and pls do keep me posted on how you are doing or if you have any additional queries.
