allergic reaction to amoxacillin?

My 2 year old had a cold that developed into a dbl ear infection , she was taking amoxacillin for 8 days when she awoke with red spots on her belly, by evening they had spread across her entire body and awoke this morning coughing, watery eyes, sneezing, and a 100.7 temperature. It looks like hives, and she does attempt to scratch them some, i gave her some childrens antihistamine which has not seemed to help much , she is still eating and drinking and playing well though she seems a bit miserable with itchiness, should i take her to the er or wait til morning to set an appointment?

Is the antibiotic treatment done, or is there more? DON'T give her any more! If there are still some days left of treatment, I would take her to the ER or call up a nurse's hotline if your clinic has one to see if it's ok to let her go without any antibiotic. It may be worth asking about the antihistamine too. I know doctors are a little iffy about allowing a child to have the antihistamine, but she may need more so it could be worth asking about correct dosage. Likewise if her swelling, rash, or fever gets anyworse I'd suggest taking her to the ER. And if it sounds like she's having difficultly breathing I'd suggest taking her to the ER asap! Otherwise make sure she sees the dr first thing in the morning.

Allergic reactions can start off somewhat mild, so this might be the worst of it. (Although she needs to be carefully watched, just in case.) However, often a reaction can get worse if a person is around the allergen again- so make sure all doctors know she's allergic to amoxacillian and isn't ever prescribed that medication or a similar antibiotic.

Yeah that's probably for the best. Definitely keep an eye on her tonight and talk to a dr tomorrow.

If her hives are really itchy could you use something like calamine lotion on it? Just a random thought.
