allergic reaction?

The other night I took a pepto bismal chewing tablet which had turned my tonge pink, which was normal. I went to bed an hour later. The next morning I woke up with a really bad taste in my mouth. it tasted like metal or something. Then I looked in the mirror and my tonge was completely black. the top of my tonge was covered in black stuff. Can u please tell me why this happened? I've taken pepto before and nothing has ever happened before.

The same thing happened to one of my professors once.  He went to provide aid to a country in South America and got sick and took Pepto Bismol. He told the story of his black tongue and he knew why it happened, but, I can't remember the cause.  Sorry, but, at least you know that it does happen to other people.  He had no bad lingering affects from it.  I'm sure someone else will chime in with the cause.

I believe the Pepto Bismal kills certain healthy bacteria, thus creating a favorable environment for the fungus.

It's an airborne fungus. If you sleep with your mouth open and an open window in the bedroom, you will eventually have a black tounge at least once in your life, especially if you live in a humid climate. When my wife and I were newlyweds, we woke one morning to black tounge. We both kind of looked at the other like,"what did you give me?" We promptly educated ourselves and let the other off the hook.

I feel strongly it's the Pepto Bismol. I used a generic and bingo, the next morning...black tounge. My sister is a nurse and could not explain it, and Pepto sounds like the culprit!

Hi/ You were right. It was the pepto bismal. I finally asked my doctor and he said that there is a metal in the pepto and thats what did it.

I have had the black stools and also my face and lips turned into a rash.

About the pepto, I think my daughter is allergic to it, she has some blister like bumps on the back of her throat and I believe it was the pepto that did it.
Has this happen to anyone else, she is only 8yrs old and this blisters like are making her cought, almost non stop.
