anaphlyactic shock and tuna

by coco987345, Nov 10, 2006 12:00AM
Hello, I recently suffered for the first time anaphylactic shock which occured approximately 30 minutes after eating fresh tuna fillet. My symptoms were rapid heartbeat, red blotches, palpitations and diarrhoea, and I was hospitalized for about 3 hours, treatment was o2, adrenaline shots etc. Interestingly, my husband also ate the same meal and also suffered diarrhoea and a slight flushing of the face, but his symptoms were not nearly as severe as mine. A few weeks later I had an allergy test which proved negative for tuna, so I am now left  wondering what could have caused such a violent and potentially life-threatening reaction. Could it have been some kind of mould spore or toxin relative to tunafish? I have since eaten tuna on cooasions with no ill-effects. Any advice?

Fresh tuna has mercury in it.  Mercury is on of the most toxic metals on the planet.  Crazy that it is found in our fish.  Research and see if that could have been the cause.

Hi,

You could have had the allergic reaction to tune or to some ingredient used in the cooking process.

You should be very cautious about what you eat, and consult an allergy specialist in case you notice any of the symptoms again.

It would help to keep oral anti histamine medications at hand , that could be used in case of a sudden flare up of symptoms.

The symptoms you describe could have been due to food poisoning or as you mention toxins associated - this is a possibility since your husband also had similar symptoms.

Let us know about any other doubts that you have and post us about how you are doing.

Regards.
