anyone ever have this?

by leedsman, Apr 28, 2009 08:54PM
I dont know if this is non allergic rhinitis or what, but these last 2 months, ive been having sinus issues
mostly, itchy swollen eyes, neck and upper shoulder pain.

I tried biaxin along with prednisone, but that didnt really help too much, so now I am on Keflex , another
antibiotic. I dont know if i have stubborn viral infection or viral illness, or major chronic sinusitis that just has
not gone away. I think it has to do with tempersture change and maybe the prednisone lowered my immune system
so that a viral illness is still lingering.I also get low grade fever during the day.

Anybody have any ideas?

Hello,
The symptoms that you are having can be due to allergic rhinitis. Allergic rhinitis is a collection of symptoms, predominantly in the nose and eyes, caused by airborne particles of dust, dander, or plant pollens in people who are allergic to these substances.
You can take OTC antihistaminics like benadryl or Claritin. Longer-acting antihistamines are available by prescription. They cause less drowsiness and can work just as well. These medications include fexofenadine (Allegra), and cetirizine (Zyrtec).

You can also use nasal corticosteroid sprays like nasocort or flonase. Decongestants may also be helpful in reducing symptoms such as nasal congestion, but they should not be used for long periods. Cromolyn sodium is a nasal spray (Nasalcrom) for treating hay fever. Eye drop versions of cromolyn sodium and antihistamines are available for itchy, bloodshot eyes.

If the symptoms are intense then you can go in for immunotherapy

I hope that helps. Take care and pls do keep me posted on how you are doing or if you have any additional queries. Kind regards.
