aspirin alternatives

I am allergic to NSAIDs.  Aspirin or Motrin cause me to have an asthma attack.  bad news.

So, for aches and pains I can take tylenol w/o problem, but sometimes tylenol isn't enough.  The next step up is heavy duty pain meds like tylenol-3 or percocet.  Is there anything else out there - drug, herb, whatever - that could be of use to someone like me to help get over the normal aches/pains that come along.

There are very few options for someone with severe pain and aspirin allergy.  You can try seeing a pain management specialist.  Also, make sure that you have a accurate diagnosis of the cause of the pain so that you can pursue treating the root cause.  

I have a dislocated rib and could only sleep on lortab for about a year.  Only after a propper diagnosis and seeing a pain management specialist who referred me to a highly specialized physical therapist, was I able to really find relief.  She also wanted to put me on an NSAID pain patch which really irritated my GP.  So be sure you know what is any medication you are prescribed.  Don't take anything that contains an NSAID.  Watch out for them in cold medications as well.

You may want to talk to your doctor about Aspirin Exacerbated Respiratory Disease (AERD).  This occurs in about 20 - 30% of all asthmatics and 40% of those who also have chronic sinusitis (goes higher with known reactions).  Aspirin desensitization is 100% effective but has to be maintained by daily aspirin therapy.  You should definitely consider this if your asthma ever becomes difficult to control or you are taking pred frequently.  Aspirin desensitization has made a huge difference for me as far as asthma control and quality of life.  Just a thought for you to consider.
