cat allergies and daycare

by angiearts, Jun 05, 2007 12:00AM
My 20 month old daughter is severly allergic to cat dander. I have my own family daycare and 3 months ago I started 2 different babies that both own 2 cats each.  Well, on the days they are here, my daughters eczema flares up very bad and her nose starts running on days when one is here for over 4 hours.  I have tried having the parents bring over clean clothes in a bag and I put them on when they get here.  That didn't really help.  Then I had them bring over clothes that I washed and kept here.  That helped a little, but not much.  My dr says to give her benedryl when they are here, but that just makes her sleepy.  Any other suggestions or should I just get rid of the 2 kids?

My son has really bad cat allergies and had the same reaction to benadryl. Giving him children's claritin seems to work and doesn't make him sleepy but you need to give it to him well before he gets exposed. However, his allergies are bad enough that we really do try and keep away from cats. We stopped going to two friends' houses because of that reason. Just wasn't worth making him suffer like that.
