chronic hives

I have been suffering from chronic hives off and on for over 30 years.  They come from no where and last for about 6 months and then go away for about 5-6 years.  I have been suffering now for about a month.  Over the years, I have had all the tests and nothing has ever shown up.  I have tried all the antihistamines and none really help (just take the itch away).  One time I had them so bad I ended up in the hospital because I couldn't breathe!  Recently, I've been reading a lot of sites about other people with the same problem - I didn't know there were so many!  I truly feel for you all.  I've tried a couple of the suggestions I've found online but the one that seems to be working for me is Milk Thistle.  It detoxifies your liver and flushes out all the toxins in your body. For the first time in a month, I didn't wake up with terrible hives all of my face and body!  It seems to be working for me - I'll let you know if it continues.  It's worth a try to anyone out there who is suffering like I was.  Hopefully, my story will help someone!  Let me know.

Hi, milk thistle also known as Silybum marianum is derived from seeds and was used as a digestive tonic; a general tonic for the spleen, stomach, and liver; for the gallbladder; to promote bile flow; and as a stimulant for milk flow in nursing mothers.

Milk thistle appears to supply important compounds for hepatic detoxification reactions (including drug metabolism) and to block the hepatotoxic effects of some compounds. It has also been used in a variety of liver disorders.

Milk thistle is also reported to inhibit inflammatory effects of leukotrienes and hence showed it's effectiveness for eczema (allergic dermatitis), but effectiveness in hives or urticaria is yet to be established.
