41 year old male. Many health problems. Asthma and allergies to everything but medicine. I've been getting allergy shots since September of 2010. I am finally down to one every other week. My problem is that every time I get the shot it really burns and then about 3 or 4 hours after the shot my hole arm swelled up real bad. The said its like I'm getting cellulitus every time I get a shot. They gave me one on my belly last week but it did the same thing so they are going to split the shot to two small injections next time in my arm again wish me luck. My major concern is that it happens whenever I get a shot. I had a nerve block injection on my left hip last year and my but and side swelled up to the point I had no feeling at al in my leg. He said if I wouldn't have been so skinny I probably wouldn't have noticed it and that was the first out of thousands of injectons he saw that happen he said. I need to get another nerve type of injection in my neck for arthritis and a big hemangioma growing in my c8. The idea of that instead of surgery is better for me but the location of it is what is the worry. If it happens again with the swelling I'm afraid of maybe a migraine or even worse. What should I do and what is causing this?

I did consult my allergy specialist about this. Even though they said to not worry about it I don't think they really understood my question. I just want to know why I swell with any type of injection. Not just for the allergies. It has only been like this for a few years. I just don't want my neck to swell like my hip did. It was severe swelling and if that happens in my neck I am afraid of the outcome. However I need the injection to continue living a some what normal life. I was just looking for someone that might know why I swell. Thank you everyone so far.

Hi, symptoms are suggestive of chronic allergy, secondary to exposure to allergen and mediated by IgE antibodies. Your body is known to hypersensitive to certain things.
Stinging insects, Aeroallergens (uncommon), Foods and additives like Milk, egg, peanuts, nuts, soy, and wheat are the most common agents to cause generalized allergy in adults.
This triggering factor should be identified and should be avoided.

Allergy shots are a kind of immunotherapy which consists of small doses of antigen or allergen. The main principle behind it is your body is known to develop the tolerance (like vaccines) to future allergen exposure. This can be associated with side effects like mild to moderate swelling and itching at the site of the injection. Even severe reaction has been reported and need to be, managed by anti histaminic and glucocorticoids against prescription. There will be no development of migraine as the cause for this is different. Continue with the allergy shots. I suggest you to consult allergy specialist. Take care and regards.

You are a classic example of being a victim of the dysfunctional medical model in our society.
Has any of your  Doctors ever made an attempt to really find out what is going on with your health and WHY are you having all those symptoms.
The fundamental principle has been ignored!  A symptom is a piece of information that is indicating that there's something wrong in the body.
Please don't shoot the messenger.
Where do you find the patience to put up with all this suffering and shots and injections and drugs.
Do yourself a big favour and go natural and holistic.
Treat your body like a temple. Put only the purest substances that are safe.
Do the pulse test for offending substances - free download, Dr Coca's Pulse test-. Takes a week to complete. Excellent diagnostic tool!
Detoxify your body.
Do conscious deep breathing! 5-10 minutes each time, min. 10x  daily.
Drink enough filtered water daily.
Connect with nature again. Take long walks around parks and countryside.
Meditate.

I have no idea why people bother with allergy shots when kinesiology can get rid of all the allergies. At least it did in my case. It got rid of all my food allergies - forever. No pain, no muss, no fuss and much less expensive.
